BEST AND WORST OF 2005

Posted in Music, About Me, Television, Technology, Movies on December 31st, 2005
Before the year ends, I’m going to list these things first. Next entry na yung New Year’s Resolution. I’m sure may nakalimutan ako. So eto na yung partial list.

THE BEST (Halo-halo na’to!)
*not in particular order

Mapua Short Film Festival:
A time to showcase my talent in filmmaking. Kung meron man. Hopefully nag 2nd Best Short Film ang film namin.LOTR Extended Edition DVDs: Actually December 29, 2004 ko ‘to nabili pero syempre napagsawaan ko siya in the first quarter of 2005. Hanggang ngayun di ko pa nasisimut lahat ng commentaries of all 3 movies!

Blogging: This year, ginanahan talaga ako magblog kesa sa previous year. Almost everyday nung bandang summer. Si Ava kasi e. Naka almost 120 entries ako this year.

Da Vinci Code: I’m not really a novel reader pero masaya ako dahil nabasa ko na din sya sa wakas at nalaman ko kung bakit ba’to controversial. I started reading Angels and Demons pero kinuha agad ng may-ari yung book kaya di ko pa natatapos.

Summer Vacation: After 10 years, nakauwi uli ako sa Bicol. Ang saya saya. Read more »

RATED A as in “AWFUL”

Posted in Complaints, Movies on December 28th, 2005
I’ve read a lot of user reviews for GMA Film’s Mulawin The Movie and almost 90% of them agreed that the film sucks. Hindi daw nila ma-gets kung pano naging Rated A yung film samantalang ang panget-panget naman daw.I’m not a fan of the series but I’m a certified Kapuso pero medyo naiinis na talaga ako sa GMA ngayun (ngayun lang) dahil todo promote sila ng Mulawin. Read more »

OUR DOG / SM MUNTINLUPA?

Posted in About Me, Daily Lives on December 25th, 2005
Last, last night, bigla na lang nanganak yung aso namin. Aba’y malanding aso ‘to. Opportunistic. A real-life bitch! Tsk Tsk.

Posted in Entertainment, Complaints, Movies on December 19th, 2005
I rented the Fantastic Four DVD from Video City para mapanood din ng mga kapatid ko. When I saw it on theaters last July, I gave it a negative review.

Anyway, I was very surprised when I saw that there is a Tagalog subtitle option at the back cover of the DVD. And to my disgust, it was literal…too literal!!!

The fact na nag-rent ka or bumili ka ng DVD ng Fantastic Four, siguro naman alam mo kung ano ibig sabihin [at least] ng “four”. Kahit 2 years old alam yan di ba? Bakit kailangan i-translate word for word?

Some silly translations:
Flame on! = Mag-apoy ka!
It’s clobbering time! = Ito’y panahon ng pagsira!
Kill-joy! = Patay-saya!
That’s sweet! = Matamis yan!
Call me Mr. Sensitive = Tawagin mo akong G. Maramdamin
I’m sorry = Ipagpaumanhin mo!

Hindi word for word. Sino ba kasing nagtranslate nyan? Si Lope K. Santos? (patay na pala yun)

MONITOR CALIBRATION

Posted in Technology on December 18th, 2005
Bakit kaya ganun?

Yun pala. There is a thing pala called Monitor Calibration.

Do the patches marked 0 and 10 in the grayscale appear to be the same? If they do then you need to calibrate your monitor black point. Do the patches marked 95 and 100 appear to be the same? If they do then you need to calibrate your monitor white point. If the patches have a color tint, you can correct problem by calibrating monitor gamma for each color channel individually.

I was surprised to see na kulay gray pala ang background (#343434) at hindi pure black (#000000)! Ayun, hopefully, naayus ko na. Gamma settings pala ang kailangan. Yehey! Masaya na ako….

KING KONG MOVIE REVIEW

Posted in Movies on December 15th, 2005

This movie is a great “quarterm-ender”. After those projects and exams, I finally got my prize. Director Peter Jackson, once again, gave us a movie that we can now consider an epic. After Lord of the Rings trilogy, he brought us King Kong. We all know the story. It’s about a giant ape that falls in love with a girl, was brought to New York City and climbed the Empire State Building and after being attacked by biplanes, he eventually fell and died. Spoiler pa ba yun?

I was surprised that no other movie trailers were attached to this movie (at least in the cinema that we got). I was expecting to see Da Vinci Code trailer but I end up downloading it from the Net. :(

The movie is a bit long. 3 hours! It could have been shorter. But when the action starts to kick in, it become more and more exciting. I’m not saying that the first 45 minutes without Kong is boring. It’s not. This part is essential to the story, of course. There are funny moments in here, by the way. This movie was supposed to be made in 1997, before LOTR. Luckily, it was done after LOTR. I heard that the 1997 script was awful. Read more »
