LEMONY SNICKET’S A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTSÂ This film can kick Harry Potter’s ass (Film One and Film Two) in terms of production and storytelling but I think this movie still lacks the complexity of J.K. Rowling’s world considering that this movie was already based on three Lemony books. And people kept on comparing those two series of books. What I like about this film are the incredible characters. My favorite was the one played by Meryl Streep (and of course, the baby). “Stay away from the fridge, because if it falls, it will crush you flat!” The three Baudelaire children are extraordinary. Violet (Browning) was the one who played the creepy ghost in Ghost Ship. Jim Carrey is amazing…kesa dun sa The Grinch. BTW, this film is fun, enganging and I was just hoping for more unfortunate events to happen. Nakakabitin….8/10 |

THE NOTEBOOKÂ
Minsan lang ako manood ng love stories. Pinahiram kasi sa akin ‘to ni Matt at medyo na-intriga ako dahil nanalo ‘to ng awards sa MTV Movie Awards. Well, what can I say? I didn’t cry in the movie pero yung mga kapatid kong babae naiyak. Mabigat daw sa loob. Hindi ako masyadong affected maybe because most part of the story was seen in the girl’s point of view. By the way, acting was superb in this one especially Rachel McAdams. She played Regina George in Mean Girls. Bakit ganun? Mukha siya high school dun? Dito mature na siya! She’s 26 yrs old! I heard that she beat Britney Spears and Reese Witherspoon for the lead role. I can’t imagine the outcome of this movie if Britney played Allie! 7/10 |

IF ONLYÂ
This one is playing right now in theaters. But I got this movie from Matt and is obviously pirated. The DVD is a Korean version and it this was released in Korea last year. I happened to like this movie than “The Notebook”. This is more emotional. Unlike “The Notebook”, it is on the man’s point of view which I can relate more. It will remind you of Butterfly Effect. I just don’t think Jennifer Love Hewitt is the best choice for the lead role. Maybe they get J.Lo.He because the character needs to be singer. Anyway, she did well naman.Â

NATIONAL TREASUREÂ
A great treasure-hunting film. It never bored me. Non-stop action and suspense. Although the critics trashed it, wala akong pake. Basta masaya siya. It’s interesting to watch because I’ve got to see Sean Bean (Boromir in LOTR) in a movie other than LOTR. I heard he’s also a villain in The Island. Great actor. A great treasure-hunting film. She’s the one who played Helen in “Troy”. She looks more mature here.Sabi ni Matt, mala-Da Vinci Code daw ito. 8/10

THE GRUDGE Â Wala lang ako ibang ma-rent na movie kaya pinagtyagaan ko na ‘to para sa mga kapatid ko. I haven’t seen the Japanese version of this film. I was hoping that a Hollywood version is better like the “Ring” movies. Pero unfortunately, puro gulatan lang. A lot of horor movie cliches. Puro lakad.Mas nagugulat ako sa sigaw ng mga sisters ko kesa sa movie. Bill Pullman’s role is more of a cameo than a lead.Â

FAHRENHEIT 9/11 Â A very controversial film. Very powerful (and at times funny) but I still don’t know why American’s re-elect Bush despite of having seen this Michael Moore film. It’s funny too but I can’t give it a rating higher than 7 because hindi ko naman siya na-absorb na katulad ng pagkaka-abosrb ng mga Americans. I’m just an ordinary Filipino whose not familiar to their politics and other political figures. But I gave it a 7 because the last parts are very moving. The war on Iraq, the refugees and soldiers who didn’t know what they were fighting for.Â
