GOOD MOVIES HAVE NARRATIONS…

Posted in Movies on April 11th, 2005
Do you notice that good movies often have narrations? Often, the main character narrates the story, sometimes an omnicient figure…here are the movies I remember that have narrations throughout the movie…
1. Fight Club (Edward Norton)
2. Y Tu Mama Tambien (Omnicient Narrator)
3. American Beauty (Kevin Spacey)
4. Shawshank Redemption (Morgan Freeman)
5. City of God (Rocket/Buscape)
6. Amelie(?) (Omnicient Narrator)
7. Mean Girls (Lindsay Lohan)

Basta pag may nagna-narrate, be assured na maganda ang movie….

THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE REVIEW

Posted in Movies on April 10th, 2005

I’m a late follower of Spongebob Squarepants. My sisters are watching it everyday but I don’t care. Parang nakakadiri kasi yung itsura niya. He’s like a talking piece of cheese na pwedeng ipakain sa daga. And when I saw the title of that show, I knew it was a sponge…Oh well. So I investigated. Ano bang meron sa sponge na to? Bakit sikat ‘to kahit sa matatanda? So I tried to watch a single episode and I think it was “Jellyfish Jam”. I enjoyed that episode. From then on, I got hooked. And then I learned that there’s gonna be a movie version! I expected the movie to be in theaters in November (like in the US) but it turned out to be in April! I bought a pirated DVD but I didn’t watch it not until I saw it in the big screen. Does it worth the money? Of course!

This picture does not appear in the movie! (Baka promotional pic lang)

The movie was short. Maybe because it wasn’t boring. But it clocked in at 1 hour and 15 minutes only. Bitin talaga. Parang ang konti. There are only few surprises left to see because almost everything is in the trailer, sneak previews on Nickelodeon and exclusive clips on the net. I think this movie version is like a continuous 5 episodes of Spongebob. I am pleased that they maintain the style of animation but I think it was toned down. Unlike in the TV series, the Spongbob here are less distorted. There’s only one moment like this at yun yung naputol yung braso niya. It’s not new but it was funny.
As usual, Patrick is stupid. Most funny moments involve Patrick…like the one in the “road”. SPOILERS BEGIN: (highlight to see) My favorite laugh-out loud moments aside from the “road” were: Spongebob and Patrick were both crying and they were drinking the other ones’ tears; King Neptune had his eyes sprayed by a hair grower; the one in Thug Tug with the gangsters where they determine who were those kids who blew the bubbles; the “distraction” of Patrick to get the key; Karen the Computer in a mosh pit-like crowd at the end; etc SPOILER ENDS
Some main characters were not given enough attention. Sandy and Mrs. Puff have only one line each…but it’s okay. This is Spongebob’s movie.
I really like the concept of evil here. The villain is so small….but terrible. I love Plankton. I always like villains. And he’s one of my favorite villains of all time.

All in all, it’s fun. It’s not just for kids. It’s also for adults. The movie is just a lenghty episode. It could have been better if they add the usual Spongebob characteristics that we see in the series like a splattered Spongebob etc…Mas maganda pa rin yung ibang episode….At least, na-experience ko uli maging bata. It’s a thrill to see Spongebob and the whole of Bikini Bottom in the big screen.
RATING: 8/10

PS: O Scarlett Johansson! Boses mo lang narinig ko!!!! (What can I expect?)
Mukhang maganda yung Fantastic Four. Astig yung trailer e.
Bakit hindi pinalabas yung Star Wars trailer! Gusto kong makita sa big screen!!!

CITY OF GOD (CIDADE DE DEUS) MOVIE REVIEW

Posted in Movies on April 9th, 2005

All other good movies were not on the shelves of Video City so I tried to rent an award winning movie this time. At least, aalis muna ako sa puder ng Hollywood and explore movies from other countries. This time, it’s from Brazil. The director of this movie was nominated for an Oscar in 2003. But Peter Jackson got it for Lord of the Rings….heheh.. Read more »

ANG DAMING KA-DRAMAHAN NG CHANNEL 2

Posted in Television, Uncategorized on April 8th, 2005
Tapos kapag nag-ikot-ikot sila sa Metro Manila at nakitang maraming nagtirik ng kandila, I’m sure they’ll gladly report it to TV Patrol and they’ll claim that sila ang naging key para mag-unite ang mga Catholics in the Philippines! They’ll give credit to themselves! And then, they’ll conclude that maraming Kapamilya sa Pilipinas! They are trying to unite Filipinos but they can’t unite with their rival channel? It’s obvious na nagpapakitang tao lang mga mga to! All these long years, naloloko nila ang mga tao sa mga nonsense telenovelas nila. Occupying every families’ time to these shows. And then the more important, the news programs, are pushed to 12:30 timeslot!

Oftentimes, they are glad to report na nasusugatan ang kanilang mga reporter habang ginagawa yung trabaho nila. They will say na binubuwis ng reporters ang kanilang buhay  para makapaghatid ng balita! Like Doland Castro…eek!

Kapag may disaster, like in Quezon, they are showing snippets of those events, parang music video tapos at may nagna-narrate pa. As if they care for the people but all they care is how to raise their ratings…Gusto nilang makilala na pinakakaisa nila ang mga Pinoy.

A DISAPPOINTING PILOT EPISODE (TV REVIEW)

Posted in Television on April 5th, 2005
After weeks of media hype, the highly anticipated new telefantasya arrives in television and judging from the pilot episode, I was disappointed…

I mean, todo-todo promote nila ng show na ‘to tapos yun lang? Nasan ang sinasabi nilang big budget and high production values? Logo lang ang pinaghirapan nilan gawin e….Let me list the things that I don’t like:

1. The Prologue: parang cheap na Star Wars. I can accept the fact na mababa pa ang quality ng special effects but this one was overdone. And then, everything looks artificial. Walang cinematography! Same director kasi gumawa ng Mulawin at Darna e. Ano pa asahan natin? Yung anaconda lang ang magandang effects e.

2. The Bridge scene: Walang kakwenta-kwenta. And the whole scene is very pointless too. Walang tensyong naganap. Nakakatawa lang.

3. Pati yung aso animated!!! hahaha!!!

I just hope na sana mag-improve pa to.

DEATH OF THE POPE

Posted in Events on April 4th, 2005
I learned the sad news early in the morning when I tuned in to CNN upon waking up. I was expecting it to happen so I was not that surprised to learn that the Pope has passed away. He’s old and I think it’s really time for him to rest and meet God in person. In my prayers, I didn’t ask God to let him survive his health conditions, instead, I let God decide on his fate.
