CITY OF GOD (CIDADE DE DEUS) MOVIE REVIEW

All other good movies were not on the shelves of Video City so I tried to rent an award winning movie this time. At least, aalis muna ako sa puder ng Hollywood and explore movies from other countries. This time, it’s from Brazil. The director of this movie was nominated for an Oscar in 2003. But Peter Jackson got it for Lord of the Rings….heheh..
Anyway, if you are expecting good-looking people here, don’t watch it. Puro negro nandito. About 95% of all the characters. This is about the City of God, a poor housing project in Rio De Janeiro in 1960. Buti na lang hindi ako dito pinanganak dahil this is a place where violence rule. Young people know how to use a gun. The story is narrated by Rocket (Buscape sa tunay na version) and all the other characters were seen in his point of view. There were flashbacks that ultimately lead to the end. The beginning of this movie is the end of it. Galing no?

There are some minor complaints however. I got confused by the character’s names. Tapos pare-pareho sila ng itsura. Nakakalito. But fortunately, it doesn’t matter in the end. The ending is great. You have to see it. I have to see it again to understand all the small details…but in the meantime, for the first viewing, I’ll give it 8.5/10
