CHRISTMAS WITH MY FATHER

Posted in Daily Lives on January 26th, 2005
December 21, day before my enrollment for the next quarter, sinundo namin sa airport si Papa! At last, andito tatay ko sa Pasko! There’s a family reunion from December 24 to December 25. Overnight ito! Walang tulugan! Punong puno ang bahay!

Parang Sunday nga everyday kasi everyday is special. Kelangan laging masaya hanggang nandito si Papa. Nood ng TV, DVD, pasyal at kain. Too bad, nung pumasok na kami sa school, lagi siyang natitira sa bahay at laging pinupuntahan ng mga old friends at nag-iinuman.

On January 25, umalis na uli tatay ko. Another two years nanaman. Well, the last two years are quite fast. Maybe the next two will also be…

LORD OF THE RINGS EXTENDED EDITION DVDs

Posted in Movies on January 18th, 2005
?

No, I didn’t buy the original…besides, the original copy will reach local stores in the middle of January. And why will I wait for so long? I went to bidshot.com and see if someone is selling cheaper (second hand) LOTR DVDs but I only have P2,000. And I know that? that’s not enough so fortunately, I came across with this man (Code Name: FunkyMonkey) who sells DVD-R copies of ALL THREE extended editions of Lord of the Rings. I finally gave in. I will consider myself stupid if I didn’t do that. See, I almost save P6000 ! 12 DVDs for P1500.The only thing that I didnt have are the slip cases. That’s okay…that doesn’t matter this time. I can buy these original DVDs when I finally get a job. So, yun nga, FunkyMonkey and I met at the entrance of G4 at 10:15 AM on December 29 (The night before that, I can’t sleep). And when I got the DVDs, I’m so happy that I realized that I was smiling while walking on the mall. I tried not to smile but I really really happy at that moment. All I am thinking was to go home and play it.
When I got home, I immediately played it. And wow! It’s so amazing! I FINALLY HAVE IT!!!! All three of it is finally in my hands! I can see all the extended editions and their appendices without waiting every year for its release!

I want to have an LOTR Marathon in the house, but I can’t. They will not allow me. I love all these editions.
The Fellowship of the Ring became a better movie with this version. I can’t say more to it. It’s simply breath-taking as usual. But while watching The Two Towers, I was bored a bit. Can you believe it? Watching an LOTR movie bored me?? Yep. I was kind of bored but it’s fine. Maybe I’m not on the mood or I felt that scenes with the talking tree (Treebeard)? really bored me because I admit that it’s really boring. My best part in there was the extended scenes of Boromir and Faramir and also the added scenes of Saruman. OMG! I always love Saruman. Christopher Lee really did a great job on him. My favorite is Return of the King. It’s really lengthy so I have to stop at the middle to get some break. Saruman’s death scene here is my favorite. In fact, I memorized the dialogues in this scene because I love it. The Witch King and Gandalf’s fight is so short! I was a bit dissappointed. I thought it’s gonna be a major action fight here. Also, the Battle of the Pelennor fields has more action and it has been re-edited. The sequence are different from the theatrical edition. The Frodo, Sam and the Orcs scene is bit silly. How can they escape? from the Orcs easily enough? I only wish that the coronation scene is extended! I love that scene.

As of January 17, I have finished all the appendices and of course the movie itself. I still have to finish halof of the Director’s commentary on the Fellowsip of the Ring. Then, I have to listen for 11 more commentaries. 3 for FOTR, 4 for TTT and 4 for ROTK. That’s a total of 60 hours!

I will not stop there. I still have to have the special features of the theatrical edition because it’s different from these extended editions.

THE GODFATHER VCD

Posted in Daily Lives, Movies on January 15th, 2005
I want to see The Godfather because it’s no.1 in IMDB Top 250 so I borrowed it from Video City. I have to copy it to my PC because I have no time to watch it. But a disaster happen…

Before I inserted the 3rd disc of the movie, I noticed that there is a crack near the middle of the cd. I thought it’s alright and I only expected that the movie will jump before it end. Kahit may crack, ininsert ko pa rin!

And then, sumabog yung CD sa loob! Pagbukas ko ng CD drive, fragments na lang nakita ko sa loob! I returned it to Video City and they say it cost P150. I explained it to them pero walang nangyari. Sana hindi ko na pinakita yung sira-sirang third disc…hindi naman alam ng cashier na tatlo pala yung CD e.

OPERA VS FIREFOX

Posted in Technology on January 6th, 2005
Mozilla has released Firefox Browser! Some says that it will wipe out Internet Explorer’s face on the Earth. But come on! It is not that nice! Opera is still a good browser though it lack supprt of Gmail. I still love Opera. I can’t let it go so it is still my default browser. And Opera’s interface is better than Firefox.
